Two Top-10 Finishes For Radar Tires In Crandon

Traverse City, Mich., June 28, 2014 – The Big House Brawl was a fitting name for today’s TORC: The Off Road Championship PRO Light race at Crandon International Off Road Raceway. It took two attempts at a clear start, but it is where the Radar Tires racers finished that was today’s achievement. The door-to-door high-flying dirt action was non-stop in the 15- minute race and the Radar Tires races earned fifth- and seventh-place finishes. The Big House Brawl – that was an understatement.

The PRO Light race started twice. In the first attempt to race, an early accident meant the competitors were unable to complete a clean lap. TORC officials called for a re-start of the race. The field was reset as the trucks originally qualified, and the drivers lined up for the second ‘land rush’ start.

Luke Johnson, driver of the No. 14 Project648 Motorsports Nissan Frontier PRO Light, qualified seventh. On the second restart, Johnson fell back in the pack to 10th as a result of being sandwiched in the field of 22 trucks. On the third lap, Johnson made contact with another competitor and his rear fenders were damaged and flared out to the sides of his truck. He was able to regain his momentum, as best he could with damaged fenders, and challenge his fellow Radar Tires competitor for position. Johnson passed Cam Reimers on Lap 4 and maintained his fifth-place run to the checkered flag. This marks Johnson’s second best finish of the season and his second top-five finish this year. Reimers, driver of the No. 21 SSI Decal/TiLube PRO Light, qualified in the sixth position. He had solid starts on both attempts but suffered the same sandwich incident as Johnson and fell to eighth position. On Lap 4, Reimers’ brake pedal hit the floor and he was unable to stop his No. 21 PRO Light truck. Stopping wasn’t on Reimers’ agenda; he was charging to the front. In the end, he finished in the seventh position, his best finish with Radar Tires this year. Ian Harris, driver of the No. 22 SSI Decal/TiLube PRO Light started in the 22nd position. The land rush-style start startled the rookie, but Harris quickly found his groove. Steadily he improved his position and finished in the 18th position.

“The track conditions were worse than expected,” said Gary Blalock, Radar Tires Motorsports Manager. “The track started to go dry/slick after second restart but the Radar Renegade R5s tires performed great and as expected. Cam did a great job finishing seventh with his braking issues. Luke battled to a fine fifth-place finish despite having both rear fenders serving as air damns. Ian finished on the lead lap without issues, so we brought all three cars home today without any major mechanical issues. Tonight the crews can concentrate on how to improve performance instead of repairing the trucks. Looking forward to qualifying in the morning! Hopefully we can be even more successful Sunday.”

Radar Tires continues to use the LT265/75R16 and 32X11.50R15 Radar Renegade R5 tires at Crandon Off-Road International Raceway on Sunday. The Radar Tires racers will practice, qualify and race tomorrow at the two-day Big House Brawl event. Fans unable to attend the race at can tune into the Motor Trend YouTube channel for a live broadcast. The race can then be seen on NBC Sports at 6:30 p.m. ET on July 13.
