IBM’s Climate Change Goal: Net-Zero Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 2030

The latest to join the list, IBM has pledged to go carbon neutral by 2030.

In a statement issued by the company, it pledged to cut 65% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2025 when compared to their 2010 levels.

The company also plans to increase the amount of electricity it procures from renewable sources to 75% by 2025 and 90% by 2030.

It also plans to use carbon capture and more of such technologies which will remove the residual emissions so that they can fully achieve net zero or negative emissions by 2030.

IBM chairman and CEO, Arvind Krishna said "The climate crisis is one of the most pressing issues of our time. IBM's net-zero pledge is a bold step forward that strengthens our long-standing climate leadership and positions our company years ahead of the targets set out in the Paris Climate Agreement."

According to a 2020 sustainability report, IBM claimed cutting carbon emissions by 39.7 percent with the base year as 200. IBM also increased the portion of electricity it procured from renewable sources to 47 percent as of 2019.
