FedEx aims to be carbon neutral by 2040, pledges $2 billion

FedEx, the American multinational delivery services company pledged $2 billion of initial investments to be carbon neutral by 2040.

The world’s largest airline cargo company says that it has a considerable carbon footprint as it is flying and driving packages all over the world.

In a bid to reduce its substantial carbon footprint, FedEx aims to make half of its new vehicle purchases to electric vehicles by 2025 and fully transform its parcel pickup and delivery fleet to electric vehicles by 2040.

It also aims to use more efficient airplanes, less polluting aviation fuels and making thousands of its buildings more efficient and also shifting to more renewable electricity. It has recently announced that it will be funding Yale University by $100 million so they can launch the Yale Center for Natural Carbon Capture as it plans to expand the use of natural carbon sequestration systems. The center aims to facilitate innovations to increase the Earth’s ability to store carbon and artificial models that mimic natural processes.

These carbon sequestration systems mean a number of things such as protecting and growing new forests, more efficient photosynthesis, soil, and farm management techniques as well as enhancing the Earth’s natural carbon dioxide absorption in rock formations.
